Hi, friends! I miss you!
OK, it’s been what, about a month since our last report? Here’s why:
Do you remember how I mentioned last time that God has given us wise mentors? My closest mentor learned that I was writing to you all up to 3X per month, & he said that’s too often. He said once a month. That was counter-intuitive to me, but since I am submitting to his leadership, I’m obeying his advice. Let’s be honest–part of the reason for these emails is to raise awareness, which raises prayers…& raises money. But guess what? In just the short time since I would normally have sent out another email, we’ve had three different people either give one-time gifts or else increase their monthly gift…& our home church took up a generous offering for us! I believe all this is God blessing my obedience to the man of God whom he has put over me.
I hope prayers for us have increased as much as giving has!
“But John, aren’t you concerned that your testimony about more money coming in will decrease motivation for people to give more?”
How can I keep good news from my friends? Besides, it’s better to give God glory by sharing the testimony than to worry about that. And it’s not like we have plenty of cash now. And we still live in a city full of desperate poverty, we still have hundreds of people groups relatively close to us who are without any real Gospel witness, we still have ministry needs such as preparing to replace our 13 year old car, etc, etc.
Yesterday was my 34th spiritual birthday! Yes, I annually celebrate the day I began following Jesus by the grace of God. I only wish I could find the man who led me to the Lord to thank him again. Does anyone know a Greg Ezell who was in England with the US Air Force from 1980-82? Well, I’ll see him in Heaven.
Gina has been away since 6/8. She went to her parents’ home in Luna, Apayao to help care for her ailing 87 yr old dad, Mariano Edrozo. But he passed away within hours after she arrived there. Maybe he was waiting to see her before he left this world. Gina was talking to him about Heaven as he slipped away. Gina treasures the smile on his face that she was able to see before his promotion.
Since she went to care for her dad–we weren’t expecting him to pass away–Gina’s not scheduled to fly back until 7/8. I miss her very much, but I’m glad she’s able to help comfort her mom for an extended period. I stayed here because our ministries are still dependent on my involvement.
Gina & I are scheduled to visit the US to report to our AZ home church in September. Please pray that our disciples will be mature enough by then to carry on our work while we’re gone.
Please pray that the Lord of the harvest will send forth laborers into his harvest.
